Step 1: Identifying the problem

It is very necessary to first find out what you are dealing with, whether or not it is fungus gnats or any other kind of pests. These fungus gnats are mostly small, dark-colored flies that roam around your plant and often near the soil.

Step 2: Removal of affected plants

If the problem is severe, temporarily moving the affected plants from your healthy plants is ideal to avoid spreading gnats. You can later on keep those plants together in your indoor garden once the infestation is treated.

Step 3: Change the soil

Since the gnats usually lay eggs at the uppermost layer of the soil, it is better to replace the top layer of soil with a more sterile, and fresh potting mix. This will help disrupt the life cycle of gnats and stop spreading.

Step 4: Watering the plant carefully

Extra attention should be given while watering the plant. Over-watering is one of the common causes of gnats infection. Always check the top layer of the soil to dry before watering and avoid gnats from laying eggs.

Step 5: Use of yellow sticky traps

Hanging yellow sticky traps near your plants helps attract the fungus gnats and the sticky surface will trap the adult gnats on them.

Step 6: Neem oil Spray

Neem oil acts as a natural insect repellent and can help control gnats on plants. Mix neem oil with water according to the manufacturer's instructions and spray it on the soil surface. It is always best to avoid chemical pesticides which not only remove pests but will also damage your plants.

Step 7: Keep the area clean

Avoid fallen leaves or organic debris near your plants to reduce the breeding of gnats. Keeping the surroundings of your plants clean and dry always helps to get rid of most of the problems.

Step 8: Reduce humidity

Since gnats thrive in high humidity try maintaining good air circulation around your plants or consider using a dehumidifier if needed to lower the indoor humidity levels.

Step 9: Isolate new plants

Before bringing in plants to your indoor gardening, try keeping them alone for a few weeks to ensure they aren't infected in any way. once you are sure about their health condition they can be placed together with your other plants.

Step 10: Monitor your plants

Always keep an eye on your indoor garden and continue using traps and natural repellents rather than chemical insecticides. It may take a few weeks to completely remove them. With patience and regular observation many pests and gnats can be stopped from spreading.

By following these steps you can avoid gnats infestation on your indoor garden and keep your plants healthy and safe. Always remember to take good care of them and look out for remedies in case of other pests as well.
